Shingle Types and Options for Your Lenexa Roof
A clear scope starts with the roof in front of us.
Compare shingle construction, impact testing, appearance and the roof-system details that support the choice.
Choose Shingles for the Whole Roof
Choose a shingle by its construction, appearance and product requirements, with the supporting roof system in mind. Color is one part of the decision.
Architectural and impact-tested describe different qualities. A shingle can be both. The actual product, test and warranty terms matter more than a broad label.

Compare Asphalt Shingle Options
Keep product construction separate from the test results and appearance you want.
| Option | Useful distinction | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Architectural asphalt | A layered profile rather than a flat strip appearance. | Weight, profile, colors and manufacturer installation requirements vary by product. |
| Impact-tested asphalt | A product tested against a specified impact method. | The test and result are product-specific. They do not guarantee a hail-proof installed roof. |
| Designer profiles | A selected shape, depth or appearance. | The roof assembly and budget need to suit the selected product, with matching accessories. |
| Metal alternative | A different panel or shingle system. | Attachment, movement and roof transitions change the work and price. |
Appearance, Impact Tests and Warranty Terms
Shingle samples help narrow a color and profile, but the finished roof covers a much larger surface under changing light. Existing weathered shingles can differ from new material even when a repair product is compatible.
Impact tests give useful information about a defined product under test conditions. IBHS also evaluates asphalt shingles using realistic hail impacts and reports product-specific differences. That evidence supports a comparison, not a guarantee that hail will leave every installed roof undamaged.
Manufacturer material coverage and the contractor’s workmanship terms are separate. A product selection should be understood with its installation and warranty conditions, rather than by a long warranty headline alone.

Shingle Options FAQs
Are architectural and impact-resistant the same thing?
No. Architectural describes construction and appearance, while impact testing describes a result under a defined method. A product may have both qualities.
Will an impact rating lower my insurance premium?
Any discount depends on the insurer, policy and product eligibility. No particular reduction is established for a roof inquiry.
Can I choose shingles for a nearly flat roof?
Asphalt shingles require a suitable slope, at least 2:12 with additional underlayment considerations at lower permitted slopes. A low-slope area may need a different roofing system.
